Gum diseases, gingivitis and periodontitis, are chronic conditions most often caused by a build-up of bacterial plaque. They start quietly, with inflammation of the gums (gingivitis): the gums bleed when you brush or floss, and there may be sensitivity and bad breath. Gingivitis can usually be reversed with good oral hygiene and professional removal of tartar. In the advanced stage, the inflammation affects the deeper tissues and the bone that supports the teeth (periodontitis). It is the main reason adults lose their teeth.
Treatment includes scaling, laser cleaning below the gumline and, in advanced cases, periodontal surgery. It begins with a periodontal consultation and a periodontal chart, which means measuring each “pocket” between the gum and the tooth. We clean each pocket with the laser: the laser light removes inflamed tissue, destroys bacteria and stimulates healing, without a scalpel and with minimal bleeding. In advanced cases we can use regenerative treatment (Emdogain) and splint loose teeth.
After the first sessions the gums become less swollen and bleed less and less. The disease does not go away for good, but it can be stopped and kept under control for years, with good hygiene at home and check-ups every 3 or 6 months.

Frequently asked questions
Can gum disease (periodontitis) be cured?
It can be stopped and stabilised, and the gums can partly recover. Lost bone does not fully grow back, which is why it matters to start treatment as early as possible.
How many sessions are needed?
Usually 2 to 4 sessions in the first month, then check-ups every 3 or 6 months. The exact number depends on your periodontal chart.
How much does it cost?
A consultation with a periodontal chart costs 300 lei. Laser curettage costs 185 lei per tooth. You receive the complete plan after the consultation.
