Coffee, black tea, red wine and smoking gradually darken your teeth, and with age the dentine under the enamel turns more yellow. Toothpaste removes only surface stains. Professional whitening works on the pigments inside the enamel, so the difference is visible and long-lasting.
There are three options. In-clinic whitening uses a gel activated by a lamp; sometimes two sessions are needed. Laser whitening is the gentlest on the enamel and takes less time; one session is usually enough, with no sensitivity afterwards. Home whitening uses trays made to fit your teeth and a milder gel, worn for a few hours a day for 10 to 14 days.
Before whitening we do a professional cleaning and check that there are no cavities or inflamed gums. For 48 hours after the session, avoid coffee, red wine, coloured sauces and smoking. Whitening is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18.
