Er:YAG laser cavity treatment

Minimally invasive Er:YAG laser treatment is a modern approach that removes decayed tooth tissue in a controlled way, as an alternative to the conventional drill, often without anaesthesia. The advantages of the laser: high precision, greater comfort, less vibration, versatility and a minimally invasive approach.

Tooth decay does not stop on its own. If we treat it early, everything is done in one visit; if it is left, it reaches the nerve and turns into root canal treatment or a crown. The good news is that treatment no longer has to mean a drill and an injection.

The LiteTouch Er:YAG laser removes decayed tissue with pulses of light and a fine water spray. Decayed tissue contains more water than healthy enamel, so the laser removes it selectively and preserves the healthy part of the tooth. There is no vibration, the tooth does not heat up, and the cavity stays sterile, which lowers the risk of new decay forming under the filling.

For small and medium cavities, most patients need no anaesthesia: you can eat straight after the appointment. For deep cavities close to the nerve, the doctor will ask whether you would like a low dose of local anaesthetic. The tooth is restored with composite in the shade of the neighbouring teeth, and your bite is checked.
